Cirrhosis is the world's 11th leading cause of death, according to WHO statistics (2019). Cirrhosis currently has no approved particular treatment. Previous research has revealed that the activation of hepatic stellate cells into myofibroblast, which proliferates and increases the production of extracellular matrix proteins, is the fundamental cause of liver fibrosis. As a result, medicines that inhibit hepatic stellate cell activation have the potential to slow the course of cirrhosis. Targeting astrocytes with small molecule medicines is a novel, modern, and promising approach that is predicted to be a non-invasive, highly successful, and tailored therapy of treating cirrhosis.

Four speakers participate in the symposium

Prof. Gabriele Grassi, University of Trieste, Italy

Assoc. Prof. Nhung Hai Truong, VNU-HCM University of Science, Vietnam

Dr. Trinh Van Le, VNU-HCM University of Science, Vietnam

Thanh Minh Dang, MSc., VNU-HCM University of Science, Vietnam
