HISTORY AND DEVELOPMENT
The forerunner of the faculty is Plants Committee, Animals Committee, Physiological Committee and Environmental Committee were present since the Faculty of Science, The University of Saigon was established under the management of Ministry of Education and Training.
Since 4/1975, committees were restructured into 9 Departments of Faculty of Biology, Ho Chi Minh City University under management of Ministry of Education and Training.
From 05/01/2015, Faculty of Biology was renamed as Faculty of Biology- Biotechnology, The University of Science- VNU has 8 departments including Genetic, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Plant physiology, Physiology - animal biotechnology, Ecology - evolutionary biology, Molecular biotechnology & Environmental biotechnology and Plant Biotechnology & Biotransformation.
At the end of 6/2016, the staff of our Faculty includes 01 professors, 11 associate professors, 34 PhD and 66 Masters in which 41 staffs are studying programs abroad or working long-term and 98 staffs are currently working in the Departments.
TRAINING PROGRAM
Faculty of Biology – Biotechnology has responsible for training at both undergraduate and postgraduate with various academic program.
Undergraduate: Training Bachelor of Science with 02 majors.
Biology: Including 06 specializations as Animal Biology, Plant Physiology, Ecology - Biological Resources, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Genetics - Molecular Biology.
Biotechnology: Including 04 specializations as Biotechnology Industry, Agricultural Biotechnology, Medical Biotechnology and Biological Materials.
Postgraduate: Training Masters and PhD with 07 majors.

SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH
Scientific research is the one of the strengths of the Faculty of Biology - Biotechnology, Lecturers and Students annual performance many scientific research projects at all levels as well as application development and technology transfer. The result of research projects are published in the scientific journals in domestically and internationally, participating scientific conferences at all levels as well as technology transfer to support the demands businesses in the manufacturing process and human resource development. In recent years, through supporting from government, the facilities and the laboratory systems have been properly invested to improve the quality of teaching and researching.
SOCIAL ACTIVITIES AND LIFE SKILLS
Social activities and cultivating life skills, teamwork skills, manipulating skills in scientific research are the strengths of Faculty of Biology – Biotechnology’s students. Under the direction of the Executive Committee of the Youth Union and Student Association, students frequently participate in useful activities where they can learn, practice some soft skills essential. Moreover, through all of activities which students joined during university period, they can do to prepare for their life.
